Common coil grades for forming, fabrication, equipment, decorative sheet processing and general stainless production.
Supplied when the project, drawing or end-use requirement calls for a 316-series stainless route.
These grades are normally purchased from an existing temperature, fabrication or project requirement rather than selected from appearance or price.
These grades follow different material routes from ordinary 300-series stainless. We quote them from the exact grade, thickness, width, finish and quantity.
Finish affects surface inspection, protective film and downstream processing. If the finished surface will remain visible after forming or fabrication, specify it before slitting or cut-to-length processing.
These are the finishes most commonly written directly into stainless coil and sheet RFQs.
Vibration, bead blasted, etched, embossed / patterned and PVD colored surfaces are available, but they are quoted from the required finished appearance, width and final delivery form rather than treated as ordinary 2B master coil.
Thickness and width describe the material. Coil ID, outside diameter and coil weight determine whether the coil can be handled and loaded onto the buyer's equipment.
Send the finished material size first. We confirm available mill or processing routes from the grade, finish and quantity.
If your uncoiler requires a fixed internal diameter, include that requirement before the coil is selected or rewound.
State the maximum weight your crane, rack or uncoiler can handle if it limits the finished coil size.
Outer diameter should be reviewed when equipment clearance, storage or packing space matters.
Slitting changes the finished width and package form, but the processed coils still need to remain linked to the original material identity.
State the exact width required by the downstream production line.
Finished package count is reviewed from master-coil width, slit pattern and target coil weight.
Slit material is rewound into manageable coils with the required coil ID and practical package weight where possible.
A finished slit coil can meet the target width and still cause problems if burr, edge damage or alignment is not suitable for the next process.
Original coil edge retained when the supply route does not require slitting.
Processed edge produced by the slitting operation and checked together with finished width.
Relevant where the slit coil feeds stamping, forming or another continuous production line.
Finished coil edges are reviewed together with winding condition rather than treated as a separate cosmetic issue.
Finished-surface coils need a different protection decision from ordinary No.1 material. Film should be confirmed together with finish and downstream fabrication.
BA, No.4, HL, SB and 8K / Mirror routes can need more surface protection than an industrial No.1 coil.
Protective-film sequence is reviewed from the finish, slit width and final delivery form.

A coil can meet the grade, thickness and width and still cause handling or payoff problems if it is loosely wound or badly telescoped.
Loose wraps can make handling, storage and uncoiling less stable.
Excessive side movement between wraps can create handling and loading problems.
Especially relevant after slitting and recoiling where the finished coil must feed smoothly into the next line.
Coil condition is reviewed before release when distortion could affect transport or use.
A No.1 hot-rolled coil, a 2B coil and an 8K mirror-finished coil should not be judged by the same visual criteria. Inspection follows the finish and the buyer's next process.
Checked against the confirmed order, including finished slit width where processing has been completed.
Surface marks, roll marks and finish consistency are reviewed according to the ordered surface route.
Finished edges are checked where burr, edge damage or alignment could affect the downstream line.
PMI can support alloy identification when different stainless grades are handled together. It is useful for material identity, but it does not replace the mill test certificate.
PMI can support alloy-family checks where mixed 300-series material is handled in one order or warehouse area.
Distinct alloy routes make physical grade verification especially useful when the project requires added identity control.
PMI does not prove every mechanical property, heat treatment condition or requirement shown in the mill documentation.
When one mother coil becomes several slit coils, the finished coils should remain linked to the original heat, coil number and mill documentation required by the order.
A finished slit coil may have a different width and package weight, but the traceability route should still lead back to the original material record.
A No.1 master coil, a 2B cold-rolled coil and a narrow 8K slit coil need different surface and edge protection.
Coil support, steel bands and anti-rolling control are the main handling requirements.
Moisture, clean wrapping and edge protection become more important where a cleaner surface must be preserved.
Protective film, clean separators and suitable contact materials are used where the finished appearance needs greater protection.
