The visible color is only the final surface the buyer sees. A workable PPGI order starts with the galvanized steel substrate, then confirms pretreatment, primer, top paint, back coat and the way the finished coil will be formed.
Two coils can use the same color name while having different substrates, zinc coating, paint systems, film build, gloss and forming behavior.
PPGI uses galvanized steel as the metallic-coated substrate and adds a coil-applied organic paint system. Ordinary GI coil does not automatically include the color, gloss and paint-film requirements of a PPGI order.

PE, SMP, HDP and PVDF are common procurement routes in the color-coated steel market. The final primer, topcoat, back coat, film requirement and project acceptance basis should still come from the actual approved coating system rather than from the short name alone.

Color should be confirmed together with the paint system, gloss, surface texture and final product. We can work from RAL references, buyer samples or approved project colors.
Send the required RAL reference when the project already uses an established color code.
A retained panel, approved color sample or buyer-supplied sample can be used as the production reference.
The same color can look different at another gloss level or with a matte or textured surface.
For appearance-sensitive orders, approve the agreed sample before the full production lot is released.
The visible top side and the back side do different jobs. The manufacturer should confirm each side separately instead of reducing the order to a single color name.
Confirm the primer as part of the selected coating system and substrate preparation route.
Define resin system, color, gloss, texture and required film specification for the visible side.
Specify the reverse-side coating separately when back-side appearance or assembly environment matters.
Add film only where the finished surface needs extra protection during forming, handling or installation.
Thickness and width describe the strip. Coil ID, maximum coil weight and coil OD determine whether the buyer can actually load the material onto the production line.
Send the finished coated-strip size required by the roofing, panel or forming line.
Specify the internal diameter when the uncoiler has a fixed mandrel requirement.
State any crane, rack, container or line limit before the factory selects or rewinds the coil.
Add an outer-diameter limit when equipment clearance or storage space is restricted.
PPGI is often delivered flat and used after corrugating, trapezoidal profiling, bending or other roll forming. A flat coil sample can look acceptable and still show paint or substrate problems after forming.
Confirm the substrate grade and thickness against the actual corrugated, trapezoidal or panel profile.
Where specified, evaluate the coating after the required bending or forming route rather than only on the flat surface.
Sharp folds can reveal cracking, loss of adhesion or substrate issues that were not obvious before forming.
If film should stay on during roll forming, confirm the requirement before production and slitting.
A correct substrate thickness does not prove the ordered color or paint film. Factory inspection should connect color approval, gloss, paint-film measurements and formed-sample behavior to the same production lot.
Use an appropriate coating-thickness instrument and the agreed inspection method for the paint system rather than a mechanical caliper.
Compare the production lot against the agreed color reference and gloss requirement using the specified approval method.
Where required, inspect the coated surface after the agreed bend or forming route because final products are rarely used as perfectly flat coil.
A repeat order should reference more than the word “blue” or “grey.” Color code, approved sample, gloss, texture and production-lot control all affect how the finished surface is judged.
Keep the same documented color reference across quotation, sample approval and production release.
For brand or repeat-order work, retain the approved panel or agreed buyer sample where color continuity matters.
A matching hue at a different gloss or texture can still look visibly different after installation.
Keep color and coating inspection linked to the actual painted-coil lot instead of treating the color sample as a separate marketing item.
Factory slitting prepares narrow PPGI strip for trims, panels and other processing, but the operation also creates fresh cut edges and can damage a visible paint surface if handling is poor.
State the exact width required by the buyer's forming or accessory line.
Review burr and the newly exposed edge separately from the original painted face.
Visible scratches, chipping or pressure marks near the slit edge should be controlled during rewinding and packing.
Slitting changes width and package weight, not the original substrate, coating system or color-lot identity.
Protective film is useful only when it matches the surface, forming route and installation process. It should be specified as an order item rather than automatically added to every PPGI coil.
Confirm whether the buyer needs film at all and which painted side requires protection.
State whether the film must remain on through profiling or should be removed before the forming operation.
Film compatibility should be reviewed with non-standard textures rather than assumed from a regular glossy surface.
Installation and storage plans should account for when the protective layer is intended to be removed.
Mill, manufacturer and factory records should connect the galvanized substrate, zinc coating, paint system, approved color, painted-coil lot and any slit-coil processing through to shipment.
Steel traceability alone cannot prove that a new production lot matches the agreed project color, gloss and paint system.
A PPGI steel coil supplier should match packing to the paint surface, protective film, coil orientation and slit width instead of hiding everything behind the phrase “standard seaworthy packing.”
Use suitable skids, saddles or supports to control movement during handling and transport.
Protect painted coil edges and narrow slit coils from impact and banding damage.
Do not allow steel bands to cut directly into a visible painted edge without suitable protection.
